The Region

The municipality of Cabeceiras de Basto has great scenic potential, especially because of the Cabreira Mountains, whose viewpoints provide beautiful views of the landscape, resulting mainly from the geomorphological diversity of the territory.

It is certain that little of the natural landscape remains. The human occupation, linked to the survival needs of the people who settled there, induced deep changes aiming to take advantage of the natural conditions for agricultural production, by terracing the slopes.

Simultaneously, the small alluvial deposits associated with the basins of the main rivers in the region (Tâmega river and tributaries such as the Peio river, Ouro river and the Cavez stream) were also adapted for agricultural activity.
